SUKKUR: Two men and a woman were shot dead in two different incidents of honour killing in Jacobabad and Sukkur districts during the last 24 hours.
In Umed Ali village falling within the limits of the Saddar police station of Jacobabad, a man, Shahbaz Rind, shot dead a 25-year-old youth, Hazaro Khan alias Geedo, and then returned to his home to kill his sister, Shazia, 22, late on Saturday evening on suspicion of an extramarital affairs between them.
Police said Rind accompanied several associates while committing the crime. The suspects fled the scene to escape arrest, they said. An elderly man, Sikandar Ali Rind was picked up for interrogation.
Relatives of deceased Hazar Khan Rind took his body to the nearby section of the Indus highway and held a sit-in on the Jacobabad bypass demanding arrest of the killers. The enraged protesters pelted passing vehicles with stones to disrupt the flow of vehicular traffic until the Saddar and City DSPs persuaded them to end their protest. They assured the protesters that the culprits would be taken to task at the earliest.
In Sukkur, three assailants shot dead a 35-year-old man, Abdul Karim Kharoos in the Bachal Shah Miani area falling within the limits of the Airport police station on Sunday.
The attack heightened tension between two groups of the Kharoos community as the it was stated to be the latest of a series of attacks linked with an old enmity between them over an extramarital affair.
Armed men from the two sides took positions in their respective pockets anticipating more violent attacks.
Police were making efforts to prevent a flare-up when last reports came in late in the evening.
