National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) organized a Stakeholders Consultative Workshop in Collaboration with UNEP for developing a Global Environment Facility (GEF) grant project on “Delivering the Transition to Energy Efficient Lighting in Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Outdoor Sectors in Pakistan”. The project would focus on the following four components: Developing a National Efficient Lighting Strategy; Strengthening Monitoring, Verification and Enforcement (MVE); Designing for a Lighting Funding Window; and Accelerating the use of LEDs and controls. MD Punjab Energy Efficiency & conservation Agency (PEECA) played important role in this workshop and also explained how PEECA is contributing to saving energy in Punjab.
The transition to efficient lighting in the residential, commercial/industrial and outdoor lighting sectors in Pakistan, would result in the reduction of two million tonnes of CO2 annually. Annual energy savings would be approximately 4 TWh, or 5.5% of total national electricity consumption, and 35.3% of lighting-related electricity consumption. Annual savings in terms of reduced electricity bills for consumers would be approximately 408 million USD.
