The development objective of the SAGP is to improve the productivity and market access of small and medium producers/Growers in important commodity value chains. The total project cost is US$88.7 million, of which US$76.4 million will be financed by IDA credit and US$ 12.3 million will be financed through farmer’s contribution. The SAGP will focus on horticulture particularly chillies (92 per cent of national production), onions (33 per cent), and dates (about 50 per cent), milk production and rice (post-harvest loss management) because they have a small farmer focus, having significant involvement of women in production and processing.
The Development Objective of the proposed project will be achieved by investing in knowledge and technology for producers in the sub-sectors of crops and livestock; and strengthening public sector institutions to enhance the enabling environment for sustained sectorial growth.
