Chinese smartphone makers appear to be in an arms race of fast charging technology. Oppo is planning to roll out an upgraded version of its Super VOOC technology which can charge your phone from 0 to 100% in just 30 minutes. Reports suggest that this new tech will have a power rating of 80W.
Xiaomi is working on something similar to answer Oppo with its own fast charging tech. The company is calling it the Mi Charge Turbo and it is going to be a wireless charging solution built for the “5G era”, which means it’ll be exclusive to Xiaomi’s 5G lineup. Xiaomi’s smartphones currently peak at 27W fast charging and some phones like the Mi9 top out at 20W wireless fast charging. For the new Mi Charge Turbo, we will most likely see something around 30W wireless fast charging.
If true, this could be the fastest wireless charging tech in the world. Still, it’s hard to believe that wireless charging can actually be relevant as it’s notorious for being quite slow. The company will officially announce more on the Mi Charge Turbo on an upcoming press event on September 9.
